It is a Grade I listed building.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=St Deiniol's Library, Hawarden )〕 The library was founded by the Victorian statesman and politician William Ewart Gladstone (1809–1898). In 1895, at the age of 85, Gladstone gave £40,000 (equivalent to £ today) and much of his own library. Despite his advanced age, he himself hauled most of his 32,000 books a quarter of a mile to their new home using his wheelbarrow.
